I WAKE UP TO A blank TV screen and an empty bed. I sit up and stretch then head to the bathroom to relieve my overfull bladder.

Done with my bathroom duties, I glance at the clock on Rhea’s nightstand. Holy shit, I slept for over four hours. I’m going to be up all night now. Why didn’t she wake me up, and where the hell is she, anyway?

Barefoot, I venture out into the hallway. I look left and right, but can’t, for the life of me, remember which way we came from. I stare at Louis’ door, wondering if he’s in there and if I should go ask if he knows where Rhea went. I tiptoe down the hall and press my ear against the wood. Soft music filters through, but I can’t make out what it is.

It’s late; I shouldn’t bother him. I turn to go back to Rhea’s room when his door swings open. I pause, mid-step, like a deer caught in headlights.

“Devyn?”

I turn back around and my eyes nearly bulge out of my head. He stands, propped against the doorframe. He doesn’t have a shirt on and I can’t seem to drag my eyes away from his ripped abs or the sexy V that sits above his low waisted shorts. “S-s-sorry,” I stutter. “I didn’t mean to bother you.”

“You didn’t. Is everything okay?”

I force my eyes up to meet his. “Yeah, I was just looking for Rhea. I nodded off and when I woke up she was gone.” Nodded off sounds better than passed out for four hours.

“She’s probably in the kitchen. She’s like clockwork when it comes to snacks. One about two hours after breakfast, another right before dinner, and then again just before she goes to bed. I don’t know how she doesn’t weigh six hundred pounds by now with all the sugar she consumes.”

I can’t help but laugh. “Well, I guess I’ll just go back to her room and wait on her.”

“You could wait in my room if you want. I was just listening to some music and doing some painting.”

I step forward, intrigued. “You paint?”

“Not as much as I used to, but occasionally I’ll pick up a brush and see what comes out.”

“Um…” I’m not sure what to do. I should go back to Rhea’s room, but I’m interested in seeing his work.

He scratches his bare chest and I swallow to keep the drool from running out of my mouth. “Come on, we’ll leave the door open so we can hear when Rhea gets back.”

“Okay.” I follow Louis into his room and am surprised at how clean it is. I imagined piles of clothes covering the floor, dirty dishes stacked on the dresser, maybe even a few posters of half-naked women, but his room is pristine. I bet I could do the white glove test and wouldn’t even find a speck of dust.

I spot an easel by the window with a canvas propped on it and make my way over for a look.

“Wait,” Louis says, scrambling over the bed.
